Smash Kart Racing was the first racing game to feature the characters from Smash Puffleboo series, released on the PengStation in 2004. In early 2005, a "Platinum Edition" version was created by Speedy Studios, it includes the scrapbook mode, behind the scenes, some new characters and tracks, cutscenes from the adventure mode, and also, a kart emblem creator. This game brings inspirations to Penguin Kart.

Story Edit

It all started in one peaceful day, Smash and his friends and enemies were relaxing in their department, Smash was watching the TV, while Sapote is writing her diary, and then, while Smash keeps changing the channels, he eventually sees an advertisement for a kart racing tournament, Smash, who was feeling excited, started to fling invitation mails everywhere, and everyone else who got their mail reads it, and agrees to enter the racing tournament, eventually, an alien ostrich named "M. Monium Nitrate" sees this, and travels around Antarctica to compete. He claims himself that he is the fastest racer in the universe, and then, he travels around the solar system looking for creatures to test his skill. Later, Nitrate challenges them to a race that he calls "Speedy Showdown" and explains the rules: Nitrate races against the best racer on the Antarctica. If the Antarctican wins, Nitrate promises to leave the important continent alone. But if Nitrate wins, he will melt the entire Antarctica, thus, sinking the many parts of Earth, and forces the earthlings to work for him for a long time.

Game Modes Edit

In single player modes, there are three difficulties to choose, there are easy, medium, and hard. But in the Platinum Edition, there are only four difficulties to choose, with the extra one being the super hard mode.

Quick Race Edit

The Quick Race is where the player can play a quick race on a selection of tracks against a selection of opponents, when you unlock an character, they will sometimes appears in the race having the role of being one of your opponents, the player can also change the amount of opponents in the race, the minimum the minimum is 2 opponents and the maximum is 15 (20 in Platinum Edition) opponents.

Vs. Edit

The Vs. mode is exactly just like the Quick Race, but it features multiplayer-racing, up to four players can compete on a chosen track, there are no CPU drivers, and the track map is replaced with a straight, horizontal line that is located in the middle of the screen, that acts like the track map.

Time Trial Edit

The Time Trial mode is a single player game where you race against the clock to get the best time, they can also unlock Dr. Bounder Medil by defeating his best time as well.

Battlerina Edit

The Battlerina mode is a multiplayer mode where up to four players can compete each other, there are several variations of the Battlerina mode.

Gismoxia Gamble** It looks a giant pinball table (as it's name implies) surrounded by four raised platforms, there are five bumpers in the arena, four in the raised platform corner and one in the center, the raised platforms are surrounded by low steel fences, in honor of M. Brawna Loa*** This arena takes place inside a volcano with a medium-sized square wire mesh to prevent the player from falling into the lava, which is surrounded by four moving elevators, so the players can travel around the volcano mountain, which is surrounded by an island which is surrounded by the sea. 2 - On the wire mesh

Battlerina Variants Edit

Last Kart Standing This is the default variant of the Battlerina mode, each player has at least 5, 10, OR 15 HP, if a player gets hit by an weapon, they will lose one HP, if a player loses all of their HPs, they are eliminated from the matchup.

Capture the Flag Always wanted to play Capture the Flag game in a kart racing mode? It's no problem now, firstly before you start the Capture the Flag game, you'll need to place a flagpole and set how many rounds, and secondly, choose the amount of time you want to have, and third, you can play it with your friends, have fun now. Whoever captures the flag in the most amount of record wins after the time is running out.

Stunt Fun You'll need to set the amount of time before you can play this, for an arena, anything is O.K. , whenever you jump off a higher place and land on the ground, the amount of stunts that you have done is increased.

Limit Battle It's just like Last Kart Standing, except that HPs are not included in this variation, the amount of time must be included before playing a limit battle, whoever gets hit by the most weapons loses.

Pearl Chase While playing in this game, the contestants must fight to collect all pearls in the arena, well ... before you play this variation, you'll need to place some pearls first. When a contestant is attacked by an weapon, they will drop any pearls they've gathered, allowing opponents to collect them, when the time runs out, the contestant(s) that collects the most amount of pearls is declared the winner. This variation can be played in free-for-all or with teams.

Team N. T. This variation is just like Capture the Flag, but only two teams fights over one flag that is located in the arena, this game can be played if the player has at least four controllers (and three more friends) . The team that captures the flag in the most amount of record wins.

Grand Prix Edit

The Grand Prix mode is a single-player and a multiplayer mode where the player race over four tracks for the highest total score. the tracks that are not included in the Grand Prix cups is the Nitrate Depot and Drift Drive, there are four (five in Platinum Edition) different cups:

Adventure Mode Edit

The Adventure Mode is the single player portion of the game, this is where the story happens. The player can only play as a starter character of their choosing, the player must conquer the four (or five) main hubs and after they done that, they can race against M. Monium Nitrate to save the Antarctica and the world. Players can earn a variety of awards to unlock new content for racing, and show off their times to friends.

2 Wisted Shore Edit

The 2 Wisted Shore is a part of 2 Wisted Island, here in the 2 Wisted Shore, the weather is warm and good. Your quest to defeat M. Monium Nitrate starts here, in the beginning, you can race in either the main shore of the 2 Wisted Island, Smash Shore or the sandy, grassy, muddy and wet all combined into one environment, Venture Cranes. If you can beat both of them, you can race into the colorful, Crystal Cage, and the bizzare and dirty, Under Swamp. Crazy Crane is suspiciously hiding somewhere else in this tourist attraction.

Taiga Woods Edit

After completing 2 Wisted Shore, you'll need one boss key from Crazy Crane to enter the Taiga Woods, which is all you have currently. Here in the Taiga Woods, it's getting colder, and the tracks are harder, you can only go to Sapote Plains or to Fox Facade while Gako's Hutting Hut and Lion Gulley are locked, first off, you should start going to the greeny Sapote Plains, and then the stony palace located in the mountains, the Fox Facade. After you beat them both, you can enter Gako Gako's large hut, Gako's Hutting Hut. And after you beat that, you can go to the abandoned woods of Lion Gulley, and then you can challenge Gako Gako.

Mammoth Cave Edit

After you have defeated Gako Gako, you can go to the mysterious, bizzare and frigid cave, the Mammoth Cave, the level Bleak Babble is located in the exterior and it is recommended for you to go there first, while you complete it, you can go to the cavey aquarium subway, Mudpuppy Mires. And after you complete them, you can go to the Gelid Glade and the not-so-small Hamlet Amphitheatre, which is one of the longest tracks in the game, Zig Gill is waiting for you to challenge him.

Now that you have at least three boss keys, you can go to the Alloy Alley, where it has the most advanced and hardest tracks, when you have just reached here, you can go to the mechanic base, Boost R. Trooper and of course, the home of Dr. Betz Cell, Cell's Concourse. After you beat both of them, you can go to Aerodrome Lobes which Titus Tenrec just invented, and alas, after you beat it, you can finally race at Nitrate Depot. All that stands between you and M. Monium Nitrate are those four tracks and Titus Tenrec.

After you defeated Crazy Crane, Gako Gako, Zig Gill, and Spotweld Shrew, you are now ready to race against M. Monium Nitrate, you just have to drive back to 2 Wisted Shore, and enter his ship. Also, if you have all four S.K.R. Coins for any color, you can compete in the Diamond Cup of that color and unlock a secret character.

Awards Edit

Award How to get it Rewards
Trophy You can get them by winning a race in 1st place. The more tophies you have, the more tracks are unlocked, if you complete a trophy race on a track, you can go after the Coloured Coins and the Urns on the same track, and if you collect four trophies in a different hub, you can race against the boss of the hub.
Boss Keys You can get them by winning a boss race in 1st place. It can unlock the Pink Coin challenge, and the next hub is accessible.
Urns You can get them by completing an Urn Race, there are three varieties of urn, there are wooden, stone, and crystal. The wooden urn is the easiest to get, while the crystal urn is the hardest to achieve. After the player earns all 18 urns, their completion percentage increases.
Colored Coins If the player collects all the S.K.R. letters and comes in first, second or third place, a colored coin is awarded to them with the exception of the pink coin, pink coins are awarded to the player after they complete a pearl bonus round successfully. If the player has all the 20 colored coins, they can compete in a Diamond cup which is located in the Diamond Dust Lane.
Silver Coin These things appears in the Platinum Editino tracks, collect them and you may unlock an another character. Collect all four of them, and you may unlock an another character.
Diamonds If the player has all the 20 colored coins, they can compete in a Diamond cup which is located in the Diamond Dust Lane. If you win a dimaond cup in 1st place, you will unlock a character, hooray!

Cheat Menu Edit

This hidden mode is accessed if you hold L1 and R1, and press Up, Down, Left, Right, Circle, Square, Triangle, and the X Button at the Main Menu. If you do this successfully, the Cheat Menu mode appears in the main menu and it will stay there until you restart the game.

Smash has always been enemies to each other with Dr. Betz Cell, and right now, even though that he can be quite lazy, he will promise to stop M. Monium Nitrate from destroying the Antarctica (and the world) just like how he did that to Dr. Betz Cell.

Hamlet Hyena, was a small,7 toy-sized, hyena before Dr. Betz Cell evolved him into a huge hyena monster, he is loyal to Dr. Betz Cell and will do what he says. He can be really aggressive if someone crosses his "owner"'s line. He usually speaks with bad grammar. But he doesn't care about that, Hamlet has a huge ego, and always confident, he wants to "crush" M. Monium Nitrate.

Pristion Edit

Pristion is a half-lion and a half-sawfish that was mutated by Dr. Betz Cell, unlike Hamlet, he isn't that loyal to Dr. Betz Cell, but Hamlet usually dares him to be loyal to him, but Pristion always wins in that argument, he loves burning things and eat them on a stick, but that's not what he always does, he wants to "toast" Nitrate after he defeats him.

Crazy Crane Edit

Crazy Crane was a regular crane bird until Dr. Betz Cell evolved him with the Cell Tell machine, but then a bird feather falls on the Crane's feet and he feels ticklish and when the Cell Tell ray zapped him, he become one crazy bird, he could not stop laughing, even when he's asleep! In the Racing Tournament, Crane admits that he's the fastest racer ever (when he's not ... ) , and he says that if people want to continue their little "adventure", they have to beat him first.

Gako-Gako is one of the tribal chiefs in 2 Wisted Island, he claims that he is the largest and the fastest racer in the tournament (he were right about both, apparently) , and he's tired of seeing a bunch of "puny slugs" racing in the tournament, he speaks in two different languages, English and his native language, whenever he speaks in English, he normally speaks in third-person and with lack of pronouns.

Zig Gill is Zag Gill's older and smarter brother, they were regular Mud Puppy siblings, until Dr. Betz Cell evolved them with the Cell Tell ray, and like the rest of Cell's creations, they were his minions, before the racing tournament starts, Rick Gill left to become a writer, Zig Gill claims that he can still win the racing tournament, even without his own brother.

Titus Tenrec was a mutated tenrec who was evolved by Dr. Betz Cell with the Cell Tell ray, after that happened, Titus Tenrec gains more personality, Titus Tenrec is a master stun-baton shooter, and also an expert racer as well, but he didn't join Cell or Smash in the racing tournament, like Zig Gill, Gako, Nitrate, and Crazy Crane.

Fake Smash is a big fan of Smash, he's crazy about him all the time, which made him wear clothes that Smash wore, he even did the Smash Dance in front of him and Sapote, Fake Smash always wanted to join the racing tournament, but he isn't allowed to join it because the racers mentioned above and Nitrate took his spot, instead, he can still compete in a regular race against some of his opponents, which made him excited.

M. Monium Nitrate, is an extraterrestrial ostrich that lives in the planet Gismoxia, which is a small planet with heavy technology, he made other racers in the other planets to reside in Earth because M. Monium Nitrate promises to transform the other planets into a barren place if he wins, which he did. Right now, he wants to challenge against the Antarctican racers and if he wins, he will melt the Antarctica which transforms Earth into a gigantic sea, many racers wants to defeat him because of that.

Mort Mollid was one of the many creations of Dr. Betz Cell, he was evolved by Cell and became his bodyguard, like Hamlet Hyena, after he was defeated in the first ever Smash Puffleboo game, he become a lifeguard and a weight lifter, he then, reappears in the racing tournament and even has his own kart.

Dr. Bombard Vivid, was a bartender before he become Dr. Betz Cell's assistant, after Dr. Betz Cell's first defeat, Vivid was dissapointed at him and argued each other, a year later, he helped Smash to defeat Cell once again, he is now in the racing tournament, and if anything that he wants to do, he wants to wants to destroy Nitrate's shelter with his laser beam-firing machine after he defeats him. Ouch.

Leiv, is Smash' former friend and she was first seen in the first ever Smash Puffleboo game, after Smash defeated Dr. Betz Cell, he set Leiv free. One year later, she moved to a new house to live on her own, and then, she returns to join the racing tournament.

Dilly is one artistic elephant who is a friend of Sapote's. She has been recently interested in kart racing, so then, she decided to build her own kart and enter the racing tournament with Team Smash. She usually tests her driving skills at a skateboard park.

Weapons & Power-Ups Edit

Weapons and Power-Ups are obtained by smashing a glowing container found on the track and arena. All items can comes in single or triple, when the weapon is stored, the player can activate it by pressing the O button on the controller. By picking up ten Angel Fruits, the weapon is 'Juiced Up', improving it's abilities, speaking of the Angel Fruits, they are obtained by smashing a plain con will lose various amount of Angel Fruits depending on the weapon, this can also happen if they fall onto a chasm. They can be found by smashing a plain container or by collecting one found on the track and arena, if the player gets hit by an item, they will immediately lose various amount of Angel Fruits, this can also happen as well by falling into a chasm.

Explosive Capsules Regular: Releases a timebomb container. If a driver runs over it, it lands on their head and explodes after a five-second countdown.

Trivia Edit

  • Leiv, B. Vivid, and Mort were originally going to be added in the main roster, but they didn't make the final cut, so a platinum edition is made to include these characters along with Didi and M. Monium Nitrate as a playable character, and other stuffs.
  • Smash is the most talkative character in the game when he is one of the most quite characters in the other games.
  • Most of the ideas from Penguin Kart came from this game.
  • There is a demo version that is playable in the computer, the only selectable characters were Smash, and Dr. Betz Cell, all the opponents are lab assistants, the only tracks were Smash Shore, Bleak Babble, Cell Concourse, and Acceleration Ascent.
